In cases where a member may not have a health insurance cover, the healthcare scheme provides assistance where there is an immediate or unforeseen medical condition that requires urgent attention, whether locally or overseas. The maximum allowed to be withdrawn under the scheme is one third of the simulated account balance.
Local and Overseas Medical Assistance
Where a member, his/her parents, next of kin, sibling and sibling’s children require medical treatment locally or overseas due to an urgent medical life threatening condition, and has produced satisfactory evidence of the same, the Fund may permit the member to withdraw part of the funds in his/her account to assist with the related expenses.

Guidelines
a) The assistance is for the member, spouse, parents, children.
“Children: Include legally adopted children or any child legally under the care of the member such as step children. Also includes children who are adopted under customary arrangement. A declaration is required as proof of this customary arrangement.”
b) Assistance will not be permitted for Non-cosmetic treatment/surgery.
c) The amount applied for must be within the member’s partial eligibility.
d) Where the member’s eligibility is less than 50% of the cost of the full treatment, FNPF may request evidence of other funds available to meet the shortfall before releasing any FNPF funds

Documents to be submitted with application (Local Treatment)
⇒ The member must apply on the prescribed Application Form FNPF W30/3
⇒ Evidence of relationship of the patient to the member.
⇒ Recent detailed medical report from a doctor registered under Part II of the Medical Practitioners Act.
⇒ Breakdown of cost of treatment from medical institution where the patient is undergoing treatment.
⇒ Documents of evidence from the member’s banker confirming the member’s bank account number for payment deposits.
Documents to be submitted with application (Overseas Treatment)
⇒ The member must apply on the prescribed Application Form FNPF W30/3
⇒ Evidence of relationship of the patient to the member.
⇒ Referral from patient’s local doctor for overseas treatment.
⇒ Confirmation letter from the overseas hospital on patient’s treatment, date of admission, length of stay and breakdown of cost of treatment.
⇒ A letter confirming and detailing medical coverage from the insurance company where the patient has a medical insurance cover.
⇒ Certified copies of the patient’s passport pages showing details of passport holder and the validity of the passport.
⇒ Letter from employer confirming leave granted if patient is currently employed.
⇒ Visa to cover period of medical treatment is to be produced before payment is released. (Approval will be granted, but payment processing will be subject to a copy of the visa submitted to the Fund).
⇒ Evidence from the member’s Bank confirming the member’s bank account number for payment deposits.
⇒ $20 fee
→ Any application that does not meet the above criteria will not be accepted.
Method of Payment
a) Payment will be made to the member and or medical institution / insurance companies depending on the urgency of funds to be paid before the treatment and arrangements between the member and the medical institution.
b) Any bank charges for a bank draft or telegraphic transfer will be deducted from the member’s withdrawal payment. The costs are as follows:
♦ Bank Draft – FJ$10.00
♦ Telegraphic Transfer – FJ$25.00
♦ Telegraphic Transfer – FJ$25.00
Timeframe for Processing
Satisfying all the qualifying criteria, payment will be made within 3 to 5 working days of the submitted application with an additional two days for processing and preparation of telegraphic transfer.
