The Fiji National Provident Fund yesterday distributed $23,577.00, funds it raised towards the Hibiscus charity chest, to the Home of Compassion, Father Law Home, Samabula Old People’s Home and the CWM Hospital Board of Visitors.

Fund Chief Executive Officer, Mr Aisake Taito said investing in community growth and development is a social commitment the Fund pursues on an annual basis.

“We embrace the opportunity to help the less fortunate and contribute to the common good. The Fund is a major player in the country’s financial system and we take very seriously our obligations to the community and this is one of the reasons we entered a contestant in the Hibiscus Festival this year,” Mr Taito said.

FNPF had requested the Hibiscus Committee to nominate charities to which the funds it raised which totaled $32, 667 would be distributed to. These funds were raiased from staff fundraising efforts which included a lottery.

“We’re grateful to the Hibiscus Committee and its Chairman Mr Dhansukh Lal Bhikha for granting us this request to distribute the funds to our nominated social organisations.”

“We felt the need to proactively assist the Old People’s Home, Father Law Home and Home of Compassion as these are elderly care centres given that we’re a pension fund that caters to our members’ retirement needs. The CWM Hospital was also considered as it’s a public hospital that serves a wide cross section of the community in and around Suva.”

“The Board and Management of FNPF believe in strengthening community ties through its Corporate Social Responsibility and we’re proud to contribute to the betterment of these institutions so that they can serve their customers better.”

Miss Hibiscus, who was sponsored by FNPF, Merewalesi Nailatikau was also present at the event. She said there are many intangible benefits also from making such donations and the Fund is always eager to give back to the community.

Administrators from the charity organizations were present at the FNPF headquarters at Downtown Boulevard to receive the cheques.
